چکیده

Cannabinoids have recently been added to the therapeutic armamentarium of cancer, not only for their palliative effects (inhibition of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting) but also as antitumor drugs, based on their ability to induce cancer cell apoptosis and reduce neoangiogenesis as well as tumor cell invasiveness and metastasis. A large number of researches have reported the antitumor effects of cannabinoids on various cancer types (glioma, breast, prostate, skin, lung, thyroid, gastric, colon, hepatocellular, pancreatic, lymphoma and leukemia). Furthemore, the endogenous signalling system of endocannabinoids which share common receptors and manifest similar actions with cannabinoids, is also a promising field for the treatment of cancer. We present recent advances regarding ongoing research of cannabinoids and endocannabinoids in various cancer types.

Cannabinoids and omega-3/6 endocannabinoids as cell death and anticancer modulators.

Cannabinoids-endocannaboids are possible preventatives of common diseases including cancers. Cannabinoid receptors (CB(½), TRPV1) are central components of the system. Many disease-ameliorating effects of cannabinoids-endocannabinoids are receptor mediated, but many are not, indicating non-CBR signaling pathways. Cannabinoids-endocannabinoids are anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, anti-inva...

Endocannabinoids and Cancer.

A large body of evidence shows that cannabinoids, in addition to their well-known palliative effects on some cancer-associated symptoms, can reduce tumour growth in animal models of cancer. They do so by modulating key cell signalling pathways involved in the control of cancer cell proliferation and survival. In addition, cannabinoids inhibit angiogenesis and cell proliferation in different typ...

Novel therapeutic applications of cannabinoids in cancer disease

The endocannabinoid system, comprising the cannabinoid receptors type 1 (CB1) and type 2 (CB2), their endogenous ligands (endocannabinoids), and the proteins that regulate endocannabinoid biosynthesis and degradation, controls several physiological and pathological functions. Indeed, recent evidence indicates that endocannabinoids influence the intracellular events controlling the proliferation...

The endocannabinoid system in cancer-potential therapeutic target?

Endogenous arachidonic acid metabolites with properties similar to compounds of Cannabis sativa Linnaeus, the so-called endocannabinoids, have effects on various types of cancer. Although endocannabinoids and synthetic cannabinoids may have pro-proliferative effects, predominantly inhibitory effects on tumor growth, angiogenesis, migration and metastasis have been described. Remarkably, these e...

Cannabinoids as Therapeutics for Non-Melanoma and Melanoma Skin Cancer

Skin cancer has a significant impact on the health care system of many societies. The most common types of skin cancer are Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer (NMSC) and melanoma. In the United States, NMSC incidence is greater than all other cancers combined. Although death is a rare outcome of NMSC, recurrence is fairly common. In contrast, melanoma is highly metastatic, chemoresistant and is often leth...
